I have always had an interest in writing: articles, short stories, poems, the odd radio play, and entering writing competitions.
Like many writers it was a hobby - something I did almost furtively in my spare time, while working and looking after my family. Like many writers I also hoped
that one day I would be 'discovered'. The big one, the bestseller: the novel I sent out and was rejected - we very much liked your story but our lists are full.
For the last 25 years I have also been a foster carer - looking after children who cannot be cared for by their own parents; often rising at 4.30 to write as
that is the only free (and quiet) time. Then miraculously the two halves of my life - writer and foster carer - came together in a way that was truly the
stuff of dreams. I wrote about a child I had fostered and it immediately became a number one best seller.
Fostering is very demanding but the rewards are never ending. If you are interested in fostering you can find out more by contacting your local
social services, family and children's division, or an Independent Fostering Agency.
If you are a student or in a reading group studying my work, or you would simply like more information about me please email

Many readers have contacted me, asking for details of charities so they can make a donation.
Below are some of the charities I have supported:
NSPCC
Save the Children
Barnardo's
NAPAC
Fostering Net
